Leadership Team

Dr. Kathy Rowlen’s career has spanned both academia and business over the past three decades. Dr. Rowlen was an award-winning Professor of Chemistry at the University of Colorado in Boulder from 1991 to 2008; recognition included National Science Foundation Career Award, Beckman Foundation Young Investigator, Research and Creative Work Faculty Fellowship, and Inventor of the Year in 2006. Dr. Rowlen is inventor/co-inventor on numerous patents, has published over 100 scientific papers, and has given hundreds of scientific talks. After co-founding InDevR in 2003, Dr. Rowlen transitioned to a full-time position as its Chief Executive Officer in 2008. Under her leadership the company has experienced balanced growth and has successfully translated fundamental research into high-impact commercial products. InDevR has received a number of awards including Colorado Companies to Watch (2010), Innovative Company of the Year (BizWest IQ Awards, 2015), and Innovative Product of the Year (BizWest IQ Awards, 2015). Dr. Rowlen received her B.S. in Chemistry at Grand Valley State University and her Ph.D. in Chemistry at the University of Colorado, Boulder.

Dr. Erica Dawson has been integral in leading the research and development and transfer to manufacturing of InDevR products since 2006. Dr. Dawson manages InDevR’s cross-functional R&D and Engineering departments, guiding and overseeing the development of the company’s extensive technology portfolio and related intellectual property. Additionally, she collaborates with production, customer service, and sales and marketing to promote the commercial success of these technologies. Dr. Dawson has acted as the program manager or principal investigator on most of InDevR’s government-funded contracts and grants including the recently completed $14.7M contract with the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) for FluChip-8G for which Dr. Dawson successfully led the company in its first 510(k) clearance in April 2019. Dr. Dawson has 15 years experience in project/program management and medical device/life science tools development and life cycle management.

Dr. Dawson earned her Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, holds a B.S. (summa cum laude) from Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY, and completed her postdoctoral training at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Erica has published a wide number of high impact scientific publications and is a named inventor on numerous issued or pending US and worldwide patents.

Shannon has led InDevR’s Finance and Operations departments since the company was founded, overseeing the design and implementation of policies to promote company culture and vision while maintaining and driving operational results. During her tenure, she has successfully managed more than $40 M in non-dilutive funding and contributed to the successful closing of venture capital financing. In her operational capacity, she has responsibility over a diverse variety of departments including Accounting, Quality, Manufacturing, Contract Services, Facilities, and Human Resources.  Shannon oversees all financial aspects of cost control systems as well as compliance with public laws and regulations. Under her leadership, the company has consistently achieved the highest quality international standards and has diligently complied with all Federal Acquisition Regulations. In addition to providing leadership in the company’s strategic planning process and implementing new programmatic strategic initiatives as appropriate, she serves as liaison to corporate partners and works with the CEO and the company’s Board of Directors to ensure transparency in company programmatic strategies and challenges.

Shannon received her B.S. in Business Administration, Operations Management from the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado, Boulder. She also proudly serves as a Board Member for the GO3 Foundation, a novel education program in science, technology and the environment.

Craig leads the sales and marketing operations at InDevR, and has driven global strategies for growth and successful commercialization throughout his career. Following several years as a synthetic organic chemist at Eli Lilly and Company, Craig took on roles in sales and marketing with increasing responsibilities at Bayer (now Siemens), Bio-Rad and Beckman Coulter. Under his leadership at Beckman Coulter the clinical diagnostics business grew from $85 M to $120 M. He later led the creation of the commercial team at ViroCyt (a spinoff of InDevR) and subsequently drove revenues to $3.5 M in just 3 years, leading to ViroCyt’s acquisition by Sartorius. At Malvern Panalytical, as part of the Executive Leadership Team in his role as Global Sales and Marketing Director, the ASD business doubled, which led to the integration with Malvern Panalytical. As Corporate Development Director at BGI Genomics, Craig built a clinical diagnostics division from scratch, which included establishing a sales and marketing team and the acquisition of a product portfolio through partnership agreements with several other global organizations to commercialize throughout the Americas.

Craig earned his B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Michigan, and an MBA from the Katz Graduate school of Business at the University of Pittsburgh. He also sits on the Leads Schools of Business, University of Colorado Boulder Graduate Advisory Board.
